Dave taking stock for the last time

A long-serving Alnwick supermarket manager will check out for the last time next week after deciding to take early retirement. Dave Beaney, 56, is hanging up his overalls at Morrisons to spend more time with his two grandchildren, Ellis, 12, and Kurtis, nine. Dave has been with the company for 40 years and was one of the country's youngest managers when he took charge of the Killingworth Presto store at the age of 23.

But it has been a tough decision for Dave, from Byker, who is leaving a job he loves.

“It has been my privilege to serve the people of this great town and I will miss the friends I’ve made, both colleagues and customers,” he said. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Alnwick and surrounding areas for their custom and support over the years. I also wish to thank all my colleagues in store for their fantastic support and loyalty, the best team I’ve ever worked with!”

Dave retires on December 1, handing over the reins to his current deputy, Carolyn Gibson.
