A sell-out performance was held in the coastal village at the end of last month to raise funds for the Hindmarsh Hall’s new floor.

But the Last Tango was also a way to remember a former dancer and friend who passed away at towards the end of last year.

The play, written by local author Anne Ousby, was performed by Alnmouth’s over-50s keep-fit class, which meets every Wednesday in the hall.

The class decided to put on a show in memory of former member Anne MacLean.

The group has been running for about four years and Anne was one of its original attendees. Those who take part have become firm friends and had tickets booked to see the Last Tango, but unfortunately Anne was too ill to attend.

It started with members chatting about doing a performance which culminated in their first show.

They were astounded to sell out of all the tickets, and in turn raise over £1,000 for the Hindmarsh Hall floor fund.

One of the dancing girls said: “It was brilliant fun doing it and raising money. We are all such good friends and support and look after each other. We never thought the show would sell out.”
