Cyclist with serious head injuries found in middle of road by police

A 46-year-old woman is in hospital with serious head injuries after being found lying in the middle of the road by police officers.

Northumbria Police was called to Attlee Bank, Bedlington, at around 11.30am on Saturday, November 7 following reports of concern for a female cyclist, who was said to be lying in the middle of the road.

The injured woman was taken to hospital, where she remains on Saturday afternoon, by the North East Ambulance Service.

An inquiry is now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement, a force spokesperson said: “The 46-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries to her head and was taken to hospital by paramedics where she currently remains.

“An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and Motor Patrol Officers are now appealing to the public for any information.
