Cyclist critically injured after collision in Northumberland

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital after a collision with a 4x4 in north Northumberland.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, suffered a severe head injury in the accident yesterday afternoon on the B6354 at the junction to Crookham, near Ford.

The Great North Air Ambulance was called at 5pm and the injured man was anaesthetised at the scene by its doctor-led trauma team. The air medics were working alongside a crew from the North East Ambulance Service, who were first on scene.

The man was flown to the RVI in Newcastle in a critical condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them. Anyone who saw the collision or may have information to help is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 812 30/09/15.
