Cyclist critical after collapsing in Northumberland town
Police investigating a collapsed cyclist and a car crash in Blyth this morning do not believe the two incidents are linked.
Officers were called at around 6.48am to reports that a cyclist had collapsed on Plessey Road. It is believed the man had suffered a medical episode and that no criminal offence has occurred. He is currently in hospital where his condition is described as critical.
Officers do not believe there is any link between this incident and a collision outside the ASDA on Cowpen Road. A Fiat Punto carrying two men and two women crashed at around 6.50am before the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
Police continue to investigate this incident and a 26-year-old male passenger has been arrested on suspicion of affray. He remains in police custody at this time.
All roads that were closed to assist the investigations have since been reopened. Officers would ask any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who might have any information that could help the inquiry, to contact them on 101, quoting reference 259 14/05/16.
