A cyclist is critical in hospital after suffering a serious head injury when he fell from his bike near Alnwick.

The incident happened at 9.10pm yesterday on the A1 northbound at the exit slip road for Alnwick.

Police said the man, aged 31, fell from his bike and suffered a serious head injury.

He was taken to the RVI for treatment where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

It is believed the man was with a group of other men who were all riding bikes.

Initial inquiries suggest no other vehicles were involved.

Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to get in contact.
