MASSIVE crowds have gathered along Bondgate Within in Alnwick to welcome the Queen, as she begins her walkabout to meet members of the public.
An onlooker said: “The street is absolutely packed – it’s a brilliant day for the town.”
Earlier today, the monarch officially opened the new 57-bed Alnwick Youth Hostel on Green Batt, before travelling to the castle and garden where she celebrated the role played by carers and community volunteers across Northumberland.
Around 8,000 specially invited guests attended the event, hosted by the Duchess of Northumberland in her role as Lord Lieutenant.
The Duchess was accompanied by Alan Shearer OBE, who is her Deputy.
