Vicious Northumberland thug jailed after a ‘disgusting and shocking’ attack on a police officer

A 32-year-old man has received a four-month prison sentence after attacking a police officer on April 27.

Michael Crozier, 32 from Blyth, was sentenced to four months in prison after what was described as a “disgusting and shocking” attack on a police officer.

On the evening of Monday, April 27, officers responded to a report of a disturbance on Cowpen Road, Blyth, when they came into contact with Mr Crozier.

As police tried to calm the situation, Crozier became violent and repeatedly struck one of the officers – causing facial injuries that later required hospital treatment.

Crozier, of Argyle Mews was subsequently arrested and charged with assault.

He appeared at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 29 and pleaded guilty to the offence.

Chief Superintendent for Northumbria Police Janice Hutton has condemned the attack and praised the officer to continued to detain Crozier despite his injuries.

She said: “This was a disgusting and shocking attack on one of our officers.

“I want to highlight the fantastic work by the officer who, despite his injuries, continued to hold onto the offender and detain him for arrest.

“His bravery and commitment to protecting his colleagues and others was outstanding.”

She added: “Our officers come to work every day in order to keep people safe and protect the communities they serve.

“However, violence against them is completely unacceptable and should never simply be considered a part of the job.”
