The cost of crime

AN Alnwick man was told he had done a ‘stupid thing’ after pleading guilty to receiving stolen goods.

Adrian Moran, of York Crescent, was fined £300 at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on Monday for the offence which involved him passing on a stolen Playstation 3, four games and 10 Blu-Ray discs that had been taken from the owner in a burglary.

The 29-year-old had been looking to buy a Playstation 3 and someone got in touch to say he had one for sale.

Moran was no longer interested but found a friend who wanted to buy it and arranged the sale.

Graham Crouth, defending, said that Moran admitted his guilt as he suspected the items came from illegitimate sources but didn’t question it.

The chairman of the bench said: “You didn’t gain financially or benefit in any way from this offence. We think it was a very stupid thing to do in the circumstances.”

Moran was also ordered to pay court costs of £85.
