A HIGH-PROFILE campaign is being launched across the area to try to prevent shoplifters.
Police in Alnwick will be visiting all the retailers in the town to give them a pack containing crime prevention advice and to discuss any concerns.
The packs also contain an aide-memoire to place by the phone so that in the event of a crime taking place, staff in the shop know what kind of details and information to pass onto the police.
In difficult economic times, opportunist thieves are known to target premises they consider to be an easy target.
Alnwick Neighbourhood Beat Manager Sgt Neville Wharrier said: “We don’t have a huge problem but we do know people are travelling far and wide to rural Northumberland.”
