Police pursuit through Northumberland ends with man being arrested in Alnwick

A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a police pursuit in Northumberland.

Northumbria Police became involved in the pursuit after a vehicle failed to stop on the A1, near Morpeth, in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday, December 17.

The pursuit led to Alnwick where the vehicle was abandoned and its occupants ran off.

A search involving the force helicopter resulted in a man being arrested.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 00.05am today (Tuesday), the driver of a blue Volvo failed to stop for an officer on the A1 southbound near Morpeth.

“A police pursuit commenced and shortly after the vehicle was abandoned in the Alnwick area and those involved fled the scene.

“With the assistance of the police helicopter and search officers those involved were found and a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

“He currently remains in police custody.”
