Police are investigating the death of a Northumberland woman, who is thought to have been assaulted.

Leanne Patterson, 36, who lived in the Blyth area, is understood to have been attacked in the Princess Louise Road area of the town at around 1.45pm on Thursday, March 29.

She was admitted to hospital a number of days later, but her condition deteriorated and she died last Wednesday.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Leanne’s death is ongoing and police are now appealing for help from the public.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking to any witnesses who may have been in the Princess Louise Road area at the time of the assault.

Five men and one woman were arrested in connection with the incident, but they have been released under investigation, pending further inquiries.

Specially-trained officers are working with the family to keep them updated through this difficult time.

If you saw Leanne being assaulted, or have information that could assist police, then contact officers on 101 quoting log 724 05/04/18.
