PlayZone in Northumberland damaged 'through acts of vandalism'

An outdoor sports and activity space in south east Northumberland has been targeted by vandals.

A post on Northumberland County Council’s Facebook page yesterday (Monday) said that “Westlea Park PlayZone in Bedlington has recently been damaged through acts of vandalism”.

Basketball nets, the community defibrillator cabinet and the PlayZone entry keypad are among the damaged equipment.

The post also included the following: “The damage to the defibrillator is particularly concerning. This is potentially life-saving equipment that is there for everyone in our community.

“While repairs will be carried out as quickly as possible, every pound spent fixing avoidable damage is money that could instead be invested in new equipment and free activities for local people.

“A reminder that the PlayZone is free to access before and after school, as well as throughout weekends and school holidays, so there is no need to damage equipment or force entry.

“Please help us look after this community facility so it can continue to benefit everyone. If you witnessed the damage or have any information, please report it to Northumbria Police or contact Northumberland County Council.”
