New police appeal after woman is raped in Northumberland

A woman had been raped at a large party in the Rothbury area when she fell unconscious. She woke up with bruising and, after going home, rang police to report that she had been raped.
It is believed the incident took place between 11pm on Saturday, July 27, and 2am on Sunday, July 28.

Hide AdDetective Constable Caroline Slowey, of Northumbria Police’s Rape Investigation Team, said: “We have spoken to a number of witnesses as part of our enquiries and I want to thank those who have already come forward, but we believe that there may be more who can help with our investigation.

“There were a number of people at the party and it is highly likely that any offender would have been in attendance.
“Our investigation is very much active and we’re continuing to carry out a number of enquiries as we gather intelligence.
“We are still treating it as an isolated incident and the victim continues to receive support from specially trained officers during this difficult time.”

Hide AdThe victim has automatic anonymity so police are not releasing the exact location of the party as to protect her anonymity.
Anyone who was at a party in the Rothbury area on that night and believes they may have information about this incident is asked to call police.
