The Police sealed off the station, with officers confirming significant damage was caused in an explosion, with an investigation now underway to find who is responsible.

London North Eastern Railway - who manage the station - have stated that they do not expect any trains to stop at the station during the remainder of today.

A spokesperson said: "Berwick station remains closed. Passengers are being taken by bus to Alnmouth or Edinburgh where their journeys can then continue by rail."
