In the early hours of New Year’s Day a man was seriously assaulted on Front West Street, Bedlington, at around 2.20am.

The injured man was first attacked in the toilets of a bar where he was punched, causing him to fall back and hit his head.

The victim, who is in his early 20s, then went outside but was followed and seriously assaulted on the street outside Astons Late Bar.

He suffered a broken jaw and cuts to the head.

A 21-year-old male has been helping police with enquiries and is currently released under investigation.

But officers are still looking to trace anyone who may have witnessed the attack or aided the injured gentleman.
