CRB: Housing is appropriate
With reference to the sale of the former Spar shop in Longhoughton and successful Community Right to Bid (CRB) application, listing the building on the Public Register Of Assets Of Community Value (Northumberland Gazette, October 25), we have several concerns.
Hopefully, the parish council or steering group can answer these concerns and eradicate the apprehensions.
Who will ‘police’ the building should there be any problems?
Who will maintain and repair this building to prevent it from becoming an eyesore as it is already quite run down?
Who will be responsible for maintaining the outside grounds?
Where will the funding for this work be obtained? Is there a plan in force? Will the money dry up?
Should the steering committee include members of the public and residents of the village, etc?
Being surrounded on all four sides by domestic dwellings, would further housing not be a more appropriate plan as the Spar could not survive and the public house also closed?
At least new residents would hopefully maintain their properties to an acceptable degree with their own funding.
