Craster WI, Meeting

Craster WI held its July meeting in the Memorial Hall on Thursday, July 7.

The meeting began with the singing of Jerusalem.

The secretary Marion reported that the 100 club money is due, and that Shirley had been to the AGM at Croydon.

Chairman Rosemary spoke about the Theatre Royal programme.

Our fund-raising event is on July 24, in the Boathouse, Craster Harbour, at 10.30am, with stalls, a tombola, WI baking produce, tea and coffee, sandwiches and cakes for sale.

The chairman introduced Dominic Appleby, who spoke about his work as a street pastor in Newcastle in the Big Market.

Street pastors have been in existence since 2003. It is a voluntary role and Christian based. Street Pastors help vulnerable girls and young men who are in a state of drunkenness, or for girls in high heels shoes, they provide yellow flip-flops.

The street pastors aim to make Newcastle a safer place. Apparently, there are increasing mental health problems and the street pastors give practical help in a broken world. They keep a camera for security.

Supper was served, and Marion gave the vote of thanks.

The competition was a ring. Winners were Sybil Dawson, Trish Flegg and Shirley Tucker.
