Craster Community Trust’s new overhead projector and screen are a great help as Marion, our secretary, displays business on the screen.

Resolutions for the Women’s Institute AGM were discussed and voted on.

The next meeting in February will be our annual dinner at The Horseshoes in Rennington, always enjoyable.

The Craster cancer coffee morning is on February 24, and members were asked to give what help they can. The group meeting was considered, and we have an invitation to attend Seahouses’ 94th birthday celebrations. Our educational outing on May 3 will be to Rosslyn Chapel and Peebles.

Congratulations to our darts team, which has won through to the next round of the competition.

Marion introduced speaker Caz Pring, who has the Natural Knitting Wool Shop in Northallerton. She loves coming to Craster and met Marion when they were walking their dogs.

She entranced us with samples of her work, making it look so easy that we are hoping she might come back to conduct a workshop.

She gets her wool from British sources. One provider is only 30 miles away. Her favourite is from Cheviot sheep, but she also uses Alpaca, Merino and Suffolk, amongst others.

She showed us how to make felt, which was fascinating, producing beautiful handbags, seahorses, puffins, bears and, her favourite, large hares.

Marion gave the vote of thanks for a very enjoyable talk.

Then it was refreshment time. Our hostesses were Marjorie and Winnie, and the birthday girls were Doris, Elizabeth and Rosemary.

Winners of the competitions for the year were: 1 Shirley, 2 Anne, 3 Doris. For the night: 1 Anne, 2 Sybil, 3 Helen. Winners of the raffle were Nancy, Jacquie and Marion.
