The prestigious north east tennis tournament has been in existence since 1882, with previous winners including Wimbledon champion Ann Jones.

The annual event took place at the Northumberland Club in Jesmond, contested by players from all around the country, with the Women’s Singles event being part of the Lawn Tennis Association British Tour series of events.

The 21-year-old, seeded No 3 in the singles, defeated the reigning British Junior national champion Lillian Mould, from Warwickshire, seeded 4, in a thrilling final lasting over three hours 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

Emma then proceeded to win the Women’s Doubles Final together with her Northumberland county colleague Steph Booth, with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory over the Northumberland county pairing of Amy Hoburn and Lauren Jones. Emma and Steph were the No1 seeds in the event.
