Cowgate batsmen set big target for Alnmouth

A knock of 98 from Naeem Anjum, coupled with 76 from Jaswinder Singh saw the visitors post a very useful 265-6 in their 50 overs.

Paul Straker took 3-63 for Alnmouth, who in reply saw Russell Hughes open up with 55 before Charles Anderson also weighed in with 55.

However, the middle order and tail collapsed and they were all out for 205 with three of the visiting bowlers claiming three wickets apiece.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 2nds lost by the narrower margin of 13 runs when they travelled to take on Tynedale 2nds.

Paul Scandle hit 16 boundaries (13 fours and three sixes) on his way to a century, eventually making 102.

Noah Hiles added 67 and this helped Tynedale post 252-7 in their 45 overs.

Rich Neil claimed 4-42 for Alnmouth, who in reply hit 239-7 in their 45 overs, with Evan Moir top scoring on 69, Neil contributing 44 and Cameron Batey on 41 not out at the end.

Alnwick 2nds recorded a five wicket win when they travelled to take on Annfield Plain.

Kevin Carr opened up with 40 for the home side, but support was lacking, and in the end they found themselves all out for 111 in 39 overs.

Joe Straker claimed 3-28 and was Alnwick’s most successful bowler.

In reply, Alnwick eased to 112-5 in 36 overs with Lawrence Reeves and G Shiel both hitting 29.
