AN Alnwick man has been given a suspended jail sentence after being found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm on a 26-year-old man.

Andrew Carr, 31, from Howling Lane, Alnwick, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday, August 31 and was sentenced to 10-months imprisonment, suspended for 18-months after pleading guilty to an assault on a Gateshead man outside the Alnwick Gate pub on April 15.

He was also given a 12-month supervision order, required to complete 60 hours of unpaid work and pay £2,000 compensation.

Detective Sgt Peter Jeffrey of Northumberland Area Command said: “The injured man suffered a double fracture to his jaw and as this case illustrates we won’t tolerate violence in our communities.”
