A husband and wife team are holding a grand opening of their new tearoom this weekend and they hope the venue will become a hub for people of all ages.

Claire and Neil Gonzalez will be unveiling Little Treasures Tea Room, in Rothbury, tomorrow at 9.30am.

The launch of the Bridge Street premises, formerly Harleys, will coincide with the first day of the Rothbury Christmas Festival.

The couple, who live in the village, have high hopes for the venture and are aiming to cater for young and old.

Claire said: “We aim to really become a community tearoom where we encourage people to get together and enjoy good food at competitive prices.

“We aim to be a hub for families of all ages to relax and enjoy a wonderful breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea or maybe just a tea or coffee and a good old chinwag.

“We hope to welcome customers who previously enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of Harleys as well as new customers soon to discover the delights we have to offer.”

Claire and Neil say they have named the tearoom after their children, Joshua and Emily, who they call their ‘little treasures’. And youngsters are certainly integral to their new venture.

Claire said: “Having two small children we know how difficult it can be to go out and enjoy a meal without worrying about the children disturbing others, which is why we have a new dedicated area in our renovated basement level to keep our youngest guests happy and entertained.

“It includes a toy kitchen, shop and train table as well as a story corner, because after all, if children are happy, parents or grandparents are happy. We have mini games for older children to use at their table whilst awaiting their freshly-prepared food order.

“Breastfeeding mums should also ask about our comfort packs and free decaffeinated tea or coffee with any food purchase.”

Rothbury councillor Steven Bridgett will officially open the venue on Saturday morning. To celebrate the launch, there will be free face-painting, balloons and stickers for each child. Customers will receive a free tea or filter coffee with every food purchase on production of a special launch leaflet which has been distributed in the area.
