Couple have locks cut for dog charity

Dale and Jill Amery, from Ulgham, did the deed last weekend, in aid of SHAK, and their efforts have so far raised around £1,200.

Jill is a volunteer for the charity and Dale decided to have his dreadlocks cut off for the cause. He began growing his long hair in March 2009 and had it dreadlocked two years later.

Dale underwent the cut at a special event at The Trap Inn, Broomhill, on Saturday.

But he wasn’t the only one. On the spur of the moment, his wife was offered a cash donation if she also underwent a chop – and she duly agreed, having everything shaved off, other than her fringe.

Saturday’s event also featured a tombola and a raffle and the pair, both 44, are getting used to their new looks.

SHAK, set up nearly a decade ago by Stephen Wylie, has recently moved to a new headquarters in Greenwell Road, Alnwick. The venue will provide an educational environment which will showcase the work that the charity carries out and demonstrate the results it achieves.

It will also provide workshops, interactive courses and presentations on a variety of related topics.

Tonight, it is holding a talk from 6pm to 9pm, by Leigh Smyth, entitled An Introduction to Using Nature’s Remedies With Your Animal.
