There was excitement in North Sunderland on June 12, when the Queen sent a message of congratulations to Lt Col (retired) Christopher Richard Guy Hutchinson, 96, and his wife Audrey Jean Hutchinson, 94, to mark their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Christopher was born in Bamburgh Hall in 1922 and later moved to Callaly. Audrey Jean Robson was born in Hedgley in 1923, then moved to Whittingham. They met in Whittingham and married in St Bartholomew’s Church in 1946, inset picture.
Christopher joined the Local Defence Volunteers, before beginning his 38-year military career. He served in the UK and abroad, travelling with Audrey Jean, who taught in Army schools, became the Girl Guide Commissioner for South East Asia and Guide Chief in Belgium.
They have five children, 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, who call them Grandy and Grandaddy.
