At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Amble and Warkworth, the guest speaker was Rodney Burge MBE whose subject was the Amble Lifeboat.
Rodney was the coxswain from 1986 to 1999 and was awarded the MBE as a result. He then became the operations manager and subsequently the crew assessor for the northern region. The current Mersey class boat is due to be replaced with the faster and more sophisticated Shannon class which has a much longer range. Each Shannon Class boat costs £2million and the Amble station is faced with raising £200,000 over two years as the local contribution towards the overall cost.

Chris handed over a cheque for £200.
