Council tenants and leaseholders in north Northumberland are being invited to attend a meeting to debate local council-housing issues.

The tenant-led event will provide the opportunity for members of the public to put questions to senior officers from Northumberland County Council’s housing department and to hear about issues affecting housing management and maintenance both locally and nationally.

The Big Debate is open to all tenants and leaseholders in the Alnwick district and will take place on Monday between 6pm and 8pm in the Northumberland Hall, Alnwick.

At the beginning of the month, the management of more than 8,000 council houses in the county was brought within the county council.

The team from Homes for Northumberland, the arms-length organisation that previously managed the council’s portfolio of homes, has now joined Northumberland County Council’s housing service.

Coun Allan Hepple, cabinet member responsible for housing, said: “The council is striving to continue all the good work of Homes for Northumberland and be an excellent landlord.”
