North Area Committee meeting report

Terry Garnick, from Northumberland County Council, said it had 7,288 of the 12,213 potholes left to repair in the county, after making a pledge to fill them all by June. Mr Garnick added that the figures relate to potholes reported to the county council by January this year with any made later subject to the normal repair timeframe.

Timber transport talks

The North Area Committee also heard that Northumberland County Council is working with the Forestry Commission and the timber industry to minimise the impact of timber haulage on the county’s roads. A timber transport forum is being set up to look at issues that arise and to put together an agreed routes map which will channel and control timber wagons throughout the county.

Presentation on fire and rescue

Northumberland Fire and Rescue service is consulting on its draft plan for 2014 to 2017. Members heard a presentation from chief fire officer, Alex Bennet, about the service, which is rated as one of the best in the world, specifically for tackling wildfires.
