Council candidate sets out her election vision

June Watson is standing for the division, which is being vacated by current Labour councillor Robert Arckless.

June says she is passionate about the culture and character of the area and feels angry that new housing schemes are being ‘forced through without any thought of the infrastructure to support it’.

June has lived in Amble and Warkworth for 25 years and spent a decade as an active parish councillor.

She is secretary of Amble and Warkworth Royal British Legion and Poppy Appeal organiser and has received an outstanding achievement award for her work with the charity. With more than 30 years’ business experience, June said: “We need to harness employment opportunities with health and welfare facilities to support the town.

“Amble has adapted well to the makeover at the harbour with the help of progressive individuals on the development trust and town council, but I feel that we need an energetic and proactive county councillor who will fight to bring the rewards Amble deserves and communicate with everyone.”

June believes that having local knowledge and experience ‘matters more than ever’ and she said that she would offer Amble East, Hauxley and Togston residents an opportunity to have a voice regarding their local communities.

She said that only a Conservative majority will stop plans for the new County Hall in Ashington and she wants the cash to go to Amble to support new jobs; a new community centre with adult-educational facilities; and for educational improvements in local schools.
