Three points slipped away from Alnmouth as their congested end of season continued to bite, leaving Gateshead with nothing to show for their considerable application.

Jordon Pearson’s solo effort provided the opener on fifty minutes for Redheugh, added to ten minutes later when bright spark, Joe McIntosh headed past Mick Ashurst following a right wing centre.

For the visitors, Ryan Taylor had, on three occasions, failed to hit the target from good positions with impressive ‘keeper Jordon Bolton proving hard to beat but United gave themselves a lifeline 15 minutes from time after Matt Robson was impeded in what appeared to be inside the area.

A free-kick was instead awarded, however, Peter Murray made it count, finding the net inside the near post angle.

Further frantic pressure in the dying stages unfortunately brought no reward for the Seasiders.

* On Wednesday, Alnmouth beat Whitburn Athletic 3-0 at home.

Whitburn defended well, but Alnmouth finally managed to break them down with three goals in a ten minute spell in the second half, with Ryan Taylor netting twice and Andy Murray grabbingthe other.
