Concert series reaches its finale

A music festival, which has seen different acts perform at different hotels across the North East and Borders will come to a close next month.

The Northumbrian Music Festival On Tour has taken place at hotels that are part of the Robert Parker Collection.

The final two concerts will be held at Doxford Hall.

On Friday, March 10, the hotel will host The Northumbrian Ranters with their performance of toe-tapping, traditional music.

And on Saturday, March 10, the 2016/2017 programme of five weekends of music will come to an end, closing the festival with The Heritage Opera, which will give a grand finale performance of The Pirates of Penzance, making it the last show in the six-month long festival.

For lovers of traditional music, The Northumbrian Ranters is a concert not to be missed.

This ensemble of in the region of 30 students, comprises fiddles, cellos, accordions, flutes, and The Northumbrian Pipes.

The Ranters are chosen from the many talented young musicians who attend schools in Northumberland.

Aged between 10 and 18, they continue and promote regional culture and musical traditions.

All have a passion for traditional music, songs and clogging and their performances have taken them all over the world, delighting audiences with their traditional Northumbrian music and songs as well as music from further afield.

Their repertoire is extensive and includes national and international music, as well as the local, regional flavours, which are their stock in trade.

The Heritage Opera is making a welcome return to the festival for this its third year, presenting Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera, The Pirates of Penzance.

Many of the singers featured in this opera are internationally renowned stars, who have performed with the likes of the English National Opera at iconic locations including St Paul’s Cathedral.

Festival organiser Barbara Huddart said: “The 2016/2017 Northumbrian Music Festival on Tour has delighted audiences in the North East, Scottish Borders, Scotland and Cumbria.

“This year’s festival will culminate with a spectacular performance of The Pirates of Penzance, bringing to an end what has been a fantastically successful festival.
