A competition is being held for Northumberland’s youngsters to express what matters most to them through the medium of art.
The charity, Contagious, has launched its Special to me... competition for school children in Years 5 to 8 in and around Alnwick.
Youngsters can choose their medium, be it paint, pastel, crayon or collage, to express what is important to them. Topics include family, friends, pets, memories and faith.
Work will be judged in two groups – Year 5 and 6 and Years 7 and 8 – by local artists and will take into account both artistic quality and expression.
Prizes will be awarded for the top three pieces in each group.
There will be a prize presentation at a celebration event to be held on Saturday, March 28, in the Northumberland Hall, Alnwick, from 11am-1pm, where the art work will be exhibited. There will be a gospel singing workshop as well as a cafe, prayer and craft zone.
Prizes are in the form of WHSmith vouchers, with first prize £15, second prize £10 and third prize £5.
All work should be presented on A3 paper. Entrants can mount their own work or have it mounted at Alnwick Baptist Church, Lisburn Street on Wednesday, March 25, from 4pm-6pm.
Work should be labelled with name, school year and parent/carer contact details. A brief explanation of the art work, no longer than one A4 page, can also be submitted separately. Only one entry per person. Entrance is £1 per young person and £3 per family group. Half of the profits will go to a good cause chosen by Contagious youth groups.
