Community groups are presented with awards

High Sheriff of Northumberland Lucy Carroll, Si King, from the Hairy Bikers, and youngsters from Tiny Woods Academy.

She was thrilled to be joined by her special guest Si King, of the Hairy Bikers, who helped present the prizes, as well as other guests and funders, including the Sir James Knott Trust.

This year, £8,000 was given as Super Partnership Awards and distributed in partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioner, Vera Baird.

In total, 78 High Sheriff Awards and eight Super Partnership District Awards were presented to local youth organisations and their leaders in recognition of the work they do to engage young people in healthy, constructive and interesting activities which in turn help to reduce anti-social behaviour and promote good citizenship. Super Partnership Awards recognised inspirational groups across the region, including Wooler Young People’s Association and Tiny Woods Academy. Andy Clark at Glendale Boxing Club received a special commendation for the Inspirational Leader Award.

Those receiving High Sheriff Awards included Alnwick and Lesbury Cricket Club Juniors, Alnwick Young People’s Association, Airplay Youth Support RAF Boulmer and Northumberland Theatre Company.

Lucy said: “Northumberland has amazing community and charity groups working with young people making a significant and positive difference to people’s lives and I am impressed by the volunteers.”

Lucy finishes her year as High Sheriff tomorrow. Her last visit was at the end of March, to Alnmouth & Lesbury Cricket Club.
