It has been touching to see the number of people who have turned out to commemorate the centenary of Britain joining the First World War.
Across north Northumberland, towns, villages and communities have pulled together to remember those who bravely fought for their country.
From parades to church services, flower festivals, exhibitions, dedications and rededications, every single event has been a poignant reminder of the hundreds of thousands of men who lost their lives.
Even the Lights Out campaign was taken on board in the county and people took to social media to show how they were supporting the campaign.
Over the next four years, there will be numerous activities commemorating the Great War.
We will be printing sections of our newspaper archives to show how we reported on the war.
We must never forget the sacrifices that were made and those that continue to be made by the servicemen and women who are still fighting for our country across the world.
Lest we forget.
