This will be the third year that local authorities and civic dignitaries, community groups and charities throughout the British Isles carry out local flag-raising events and ceremonies of dedication to mark Commonwealth Day - building on previous years highly successful events.

Northumberland’s event will take place at County Hall, in Morpeth, and the public are invited to attend. During the ceremony, the council’s Civic Head, Coun Kath Nisbet, will read a specially-written Commonwealth message from The Queen.

Coun Nisbet said: "I am very proud that once again Northumberland will be part of this historic occasion to raise awareness of what the Commonwealth represents to us all. It is a wonderful opportunity for the county to connect with others around the world and members of the public are very welcome to join us to mark this special occasion."

The flag-raising ceremony will take place next to the Viking Statue at the entrance to County Hall, Lonsdean. Be there for 9.55am.
