Commitment to make bus station a lot better

A commitment to improve the look of Alnwick's much-maligned bus station has been reiterated by operator Arriva and site owner Morrisons.

Reporting on a meeting of the bus-station working group, Tim Kirton, projects and funding officer for Alnwick Town Council, said: “Arriva and Morrisons reiterated their intention to undertake repairs and improvements, hopefully before the summer.

“This depends on two things – a new lease being singed between Morrisons and Arriva, which is expected to be done in the next fortnight, and secondly, final approval of works and associated spend from Arriva, which is expected to happen. After that, they should be on site fairly quickly.”

These works include roof repairs, new lighting, removal of unnecessary steel barriers, jet washing of all surfaces and repainting and re-landscaping.

Mr Kirton added that additional cleaning provision is being looked at.

The bus-station group is also looking at further improvements in the mid-to-long term.
