Coastguard volunteers receive long-service awards

A hundred years of combined service to HM Coastguard by Northumberland volunteers was recently recognised at a medal ceremony.

Divisional Commander, Mike Bill, second left, presented long-service and good-conduct medals and clasps to deputy station officer Ian Thompson (Seahouses, 30 years, left); former station officer Craig Silk (Howick, 20 years, third left); station officer Ian Stewart (Seahouses, 30 years, second right); and station officer Philip Davidson (Berwick, 20 years, right).

Martin Lowe, third right, senior coastal operations officer, said: “The medal is awarded after 20 years and a clasp after a further 10 years. This represents a huge commitment to public service by very dedicated people and I wish to pay tribute to them for what they do.”
