Coastguard rescue off the coast near Holy Island

Seahouses Lifeboat Station was called by the Coastguard at 3.55pm on Sunday, September 6 to help the 23ft craft at the south of the island. The boat was anchored after suffering steering failure.

Sea conditions were good and the boat was in no immediate danger. Lifeboat crew assessed the situation and, after discussion with the four passengers of the stricken vessel, it was agreed to tow it back to Seahouses.

The party arrived at Seahouses at 6.30pm. Arrangements are being made to later repair the boat’s steering problem.

Seahouses lifeboat operations manager Ian Clayton said: “This was a straight forward tow-in job, without any issues. We hope they can get repairs done without a problem.

“They did the right thing by putting down an anchor and requesting assistance. Fortunately weather conditions were very good.”
