Coastal project's conference to showcase new projects

The Peregrini Lindisfarne Landscape Partnership Scheme is a £1.8million project which will fund a wide variety of conservation and engagement projects on Holy Island and the adjacent mainland. In November 2014, it landed a £1.3million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The aim of all three community projects is to provide volunteering and training opportunities to individuals and groups wanting to learn more about the fascinating geological, archaeological and social and cultural history of north Northumberland.

The successful contractors are Dr Ian Kille, Northumbrian Earth – geology; Richard Carlton, The Archaeological Practice Ltd – archaeology; Linda Bankier, Berwick Archivist, Woodhorn Charitable Trust – archive.

The projects will provide a wide range of opportunities from helping conduct an archaeological dig or geo-diversity surveys to researching the area’s history using local archives. Public engagement activities will also include guided walks and talks across the scheme area.

All three community projects will be showcased at the first Peregrini Lindisfarne Volunteer Conference, which takes place on Saturday at the Bell View Resource Centre in Belford.

People are invited to drop-in sessions between 10am and noon and 1pm to 3pm. Specific talks start from 10.30am and 1.30pm respectively. Refreshments will be provided.
