CLUB: Helping people 40 years on

This month in 1979, the first meeting of the Alnwick Stroke Club met in St Paul's Sheltered Housing, Prudhoe Street.

Started by WRVS as a Speech After Stroke Club, we still meet on a Tuesday at the same venue.

We are open to anyone who has suffered a disability following stroke and living in north Northumberland.

At present, our members come from Seahouses, Belford, Longhoughton, Shilbottle, Alnmouth, Amble and Alnwick. We have 17 members and nine volunteers.

As we enter our 40th year, we have a lot of people to thank for their continued support.

With our transport costs alone this year expected to exceed £5,000, we are thankful to groups, large and small, and individuals who remember Alnwick Stroke Club.

A big thank-you to you all.

George Stokoe,

Chairman, Alnwick Stroke Club
