Cliff collapses onto beach on Northumberland coast

Dog owners have been advised to keep their pet on a lead while out on the coast after part of a cliff fell on the Northumberland coastline.

Newbiggin Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked this morning, Sunday, February 14, following a report of a cliff fall in Newbiggin at the south end of its beach.

A spokesperson for the team said: “Please keep away from the bottom of cliffs.

"As a general rule, however tall a cliff is, that is the distance that we recommend you stay away.

"Please also be careful if you are walking close to the top of a cliff.

"They can give way without any warning.

"Keep your dog on lead near cliff tops.”

Photographs of the fallen cliff were taken and sent on to the service’s case at the Humber Coastguard.

They added in a coastal emergency, people should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
