Civil engineer Kate is up for major accolade

A north Northumberland woman has been shortlisted from hundreds of entrants for a prestigious prize.

Kate Cairns is in the running to win the Northern Power Women Person with a Purpose Award.

Winners will be announced tonight at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton Deansgate, Manchester.

The awards celebrate and showcase role models who are leading the step-change in transforming business culture to benefit future talent and will inspire current and future leaders. The winner of the award will be ‘achieving impact outside of their primary role and business to support future talent, charity, community or social change’.

Kate, from Newton-by-the-Sea, is a North East chartered civil engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). She sits on the ICE national expert panel for Fairness, Inclusion and Respect and is a strong advocate in promoting engineering to women and girls.
