CHURCH: Take part in prayer event

It’s a time when the Archbishops of Canterbury and York invite Christians from across the Church of England and other churches to join a wave of prayer during the days between Ascension (May 10) and Pentecost (May 20).

Last year, 85 per cent of Church of England churches and cathedrals were involved, as well as churches across the world, with many other denominations and traditions.

Over 100,000 took part, joining more than 3,000 events and services to pray for others.

As part of Felton’s Thy Kingdom Come activities, Mary Fleeson, from Lindisfarne Scriptorium, will be leading two free workshops on Saturday, May 12, in Gallery 45.

Mary is a renowned Christian artist and has lived and worked on Holy Island since 1997.

Mary studied foundation art at Stafford College, specialising in textiles, and gained an honours degree in three-dimensional design from the University of Central England in Birmingham in 1992. She thinks that her style originates from doodling in lessons at school, combined with opportunities during her education to experiment with many different types of media and techniques.

Mary’s inspiration for her work comes from her Christian faith, living on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and being surrounded by its natural beauty and visible history.

She will be sharing some of that inspiration, as well as teaching how to create a freehand Celtic knot using the techniques she uses in her artwork.

Workshops will be free of charge and start at 10.45am and 1.45pm.
