A CHURCH is saying goodbye to its vicar this week.
The Rev Michael Webb is leaving St Michael’s Church in Alnwick, after more than five years.
Michael has served in the church for more than 39 years throughout England.
During his time at St Michael’s, he said he has loved seeing the community grow and the congregation too, rising by 30 per cent.
He said that he has had so many ‘magic moments’ at St Michael’s Church, such as the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland’s daughter Katie earlier this year, but stressed that what he loves the most about Alnwick is that the church has a central place in the town.
He has loved being involved with the events with St Michael’s First School, where he is a common face with the children, and said it has been a privilege to serve the community, school and church. After his final service at the church on Sunday at 10.30am, Michael hopes to take a ‘gap year’ where he will be moving to Kendal to explore the Lake District and spend time with the family.
He thanked the people of Alnwick, his family and the people of St Michael’s who he said have been a great team to work with, especially Rachel Squires who will be taking over as the vicar as of next week.
