Plans for a Christmas market in Amble have been discussed.
The suggestion was made during last week’s meeting of the town’s business club, as part of talks over holding a late-night festive shopping event this year.
Some members felt a market would be good – if done properly – but it was too late to organise something of this magnitude for Christmas 2012. It was instead proposed that the first event of its kind could be in 2013.
Ian Moyle said: “If we are going to do it, it has to be big with wood cabins and stalls and made really Christmassy, otherwise you’re wasting your time.”
Chairman Colin Harris added: “It has got to be all-inclusive. It’s about getting the critical mass of people involved. It won’t be straightforward or simple. Time this year is also a factor as we are already in July.”
Julia Aston said: “Instead of contemplating a different event this year, why not think what you can do for this year’s torchlight procession then build it up for next year?”
