Northern Rail is reminding its customers that services will start to wind down across the network on Christmas Eve.

The wind-down will start from 6pm on Thursday, December 24, with very few trains running after 9pm.

Services will not run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day and a normal service will resume on Sunday, December 27, except for a few very early morning services.

New Year's Eve will again see services winding down from 6pm, with very few trains running after 9pm, and services will start a little later on New Year's Day.

Local train services on the following routes do not operate on New Year's Day: Newcastle-Morpeth-Chathill; Newcastle-Carlisle; Newcastle-Sunderland-Middlesbrough; Bishop Auckland-Darlington-Middlesbrough-Saltburn; Middlesbrough-Whitby. Normal service will resume on Saturday, January 2.
