A heritage railway came alive to the sound of music on Sunday.

An eclectic mix of sounds were on offer as a quartet of local groups performed in the Aln Valley Railway’s locomotive shed, in Alnwick.

Those to appear were Voicemale, The Lionheart Singers (pictured above), The Belford Market Place Band and the Alnwick Playhouse Concert Band. Recent work to provide a cover for the inspection pit meant that a large area of the shed could be opened up to provide what one of the musicians described as an excellent concert hall feel.

When not performing, the musicians were able to join visitors in sampling the refreshments on offer at the café and taking a train ride to see the continual progress being made towards extending the track to Alnmouth Station.
