An exciting new soft play area has opened at Alnwick’s Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre.
The four-storey rainforest-themed design has space for more than 50 children to play.
Active Northumberland manages the centre on behalf of Northumberland County Council and has developed Go Wild in the rainforest in response to customer demand for a new facility for youngsters.
The permanent soft play area, which opened on Monday, is located in the sports hall and has seating for parents and guardians to relax and catch up with friends while the little ones have fun.
As well as four storeys of rainforest, there is also a special area for children under 18 months and an area suitable for toddlers.
The play area will be open Mondays to Fridays, from 9am to 7pm, and Saturdays and Sundays, 9am to 4pm. After 4pm, Go Wild is available for private-hire bookings for children’s parties.
Coun Val Tyler, cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture at the county council, said: “Our leisure centres are evolving and we are looking at how we use these great spaces across the county.
“The new rainforest-themed soft play area at Willowburn is very exciting for our young children and offers an important facility for parents and families.”
Bruce Ledger, chief executive of Active Northumberland, which will manage the new facility, said: “Soft play areas are a great way to get young children playing and exercising.
“The demand for facilities in Northumberland is high and we are delighted to open Go Wild in Alnwick.”
