The Little Flyers childcare team has been awarded a special commendation for its unwavering support to RAF Boulmer.

Air Vice-Marshal Gerry Mayhew took the opportunity to present an Air Officer Commanding Number 1 Group Commendation during his annual formal inspection of the station (see Page 24).

Wing Commander Gareth Taylor, from RAF Boulmer, congratulated the team on the award, which recognises their hard work, dedication and commitment to the children in their care.

“Despite significant managerial changes, the staff have remained committed to providing the very best quality of childcare in a safe and enriching environment,” he said.

“Their professionalism and dedication has also been recognised by the Government’s education standards advisor, Ofsted, which graded the nursery outstanding in its most recent inspection in August 2016.”

Childcare manager Michelle Gascoigne received the award on behalf of the whole team. She was vociferous in her praise for the staff, past and present, who had contributed to the success of the facility.

“The staff here are thrilled to have their good work recognised by the RAF and Ofsted and are really committed to supporting the families and children we care for,” she said.

Little Flyers is situated in the village of Longhoughton and is open to the whole community.

It is part of the Government’s 30-hour free childcare pilot scheme for children aged three and four and has places available.
