There were special celebrations on Sunday for Evelyn Houston, as she marked her 100th birthday.
The centenarian, who lives at Alnwick’s Abbeyfield care home, toasted the milestone with an afternoon tea at Longframlington Village Hall, surrounded by family and close friends.
Having reached her century, she said: “I never thought I would get this far. I had a lovely birthday, it was very nice indeed.”
Evelyn worked for the late Sir Ralph Carr-Ellison at Hedgeley Hall and made it to the position of second house maid.
Major John Carr-Ellison and his wife attended Evelyn’s birthday celebrations.
Revealing her secret to a long life, Evelyn, who was married to the late William, said: “Enjoy yourself and work hard.”
